Thermaltake CPU Coolers really don't need much on an introduction to most people, they've been around and are known for making very nice products for enthusiasts. Since the days of the Golden Orb, Thermaltake has had great success in the cooling market, and today we are going to look at one of their newer products, the Big Typhoon VX CPU Cooler.

The Big Typhoon has been around for a while, but the Big Typhoon VX is a new twist on a popular cooler. The differences? The biggest difference between the Big Typhoon VX and the original Big Typhoon is the VX version features a speed-adjustable fan with the adjustment knob built onto the top of the cooler, which is a nice little feature to have.

Let's move onto a closer look at the Big Typhoon VX.

First Impressions:

If you've seen the original Big Typhoon cooler, well, you're going to notice that this cooler looks pretty much exactly the same, except for the fan adjustment knob on top of the cooler. The only other difference I could notice is the fan grill is now black instead of chrome (Luckily I've still got an original Big Typhoon running on a system so I could get a close look at the differences).

As you can see from the pictures, this is a heatpipe cooler that is pretty tall, and you're going to need a mid or full sized tower to fit it in, it's not going to work for you SFF applications.

The base is a very decent size and very smooth, you could always try to give it a bit more of a lapping, but I think it will do the job just fine without lapping the bottom.

As you can see in the pictures below, the accessories are pretty standard, you've got your AM2 brackets and the LGA775 Brackets, some instructions, a badge for your case, and a small little bag of thermal grease. There is going to be enough thermal paste for the initial application, however if you ever re-seat the cooler or move it to another system you're going to need to go out and buy a tube from your favorite computer retailer.
