Introduction:
Over the past few months, we've taken a look at quite a few headsets here at BCCHardware. These have ranged from vibration feedback to in-ear units and from USB Surround Headsets to Dual Stereo designs. Today we are looking at a large headset that is very stylish, isn't loaded down with gimmicks and promises great sound at a fair price. We are looking at the SteelSeries Siberia Full-Sized Headset and will find out if it lives up to its claims.
Siberia Box
This headset may look a little familiar to you, and if you're thinking that it looks a lot like the Icemat Siberia headset, you'd be right. It's a fact that SteelSeries and Siberia and one in the same company and former Icemat branded products are now branded SteelSeries.
First Impressions:
I don't often use a headset when gaming as my main computer is located in the back room of my garage and it's far enough away from the house, I can enjoy the volume of my favorite game through the Logitech Z-5500 Speakers. When gaming with a headset though, I do like a set that is comfortable and that has a very wide dynamic range. Some other headsets I've used have failed in the bass area, and with these Open Air design, I don't think they'll blow me away either. That being said, the do look pretty classy and can be plugged into any device that uses a 1/8" Stereo Jack.
Headset Profile
The headset uses a cord that comes out from a single side and this prevents tangling. I'm a fan of the single-side cord for sure. The cord itself is very thick and only about 3' long. While this may trouble some users at first, I applaud this idea as this allows you to comfortably use the Siberia headset with your favorite MP3 player without having a 9' mess of cords to wrap up and stash somewhere. Included is a headphone extension cable and a microphone that allows you to use this with a computer for your favorite VOIP-enabled game.

Volume Control
|
Although the microphone is a separate unit, it comes clipped to the 6' headphone extension cable. At the end of the cable is a rather large rotary volume control. This module looks quite sleek but is a little larger than it needs to be - in my opinion.

SteelSeries Siberia full-size headset highlights:
- Designed for gaming + MP3-players
- Extremely comfortable
- Seperate microphone
The SteelSeries Siberia full-size headset was developed in
cooperation with professional gamers to ensure that the soundscape,
specifications and comfort is suitable for long gaming sessions. But
the SteelSeries Siberia full-size headset is also designed for
multi-functionality. Apart from using the headset for PC-gaming, this
product has been designed so gamers can use it with their favorite
MP3-player, handheld gaming device or practically any other kind of
portable digital device.
And that is why the headset features a separate microphone, so users
can enjoy music on the road without having to bring carrying
unneccesary gear. The cord length has been optimized for use with
MP3-players and similar products, and comes with an additional extra
long cord for use with stationary computers.
