Software:

Now, let us look more closely at just what you can do in software.  The first tab in software is the button assignments. You can set all 10 buttons however you want them. I just left them where they were. Also on this tab, you can set it up for right or left hand use. You can see the button assignments in the screen shot below.

Hardware Settings

The second tab in software is the hardware settings, where all the good stuff is. You can change your sensitivity one CPI at a time, which makes getting it to your gaming set-up very easy. You also have sensitivity setting for when the CPI led is on or off. Next you can set your sample rate. I have it cranked for gaming.

The next one is my favorite. It is called exact aim. You know when you have the sensitivity cranked up. Trying to aim at a small target is very hard, because the cross hairs get jittery. Well this will fix that problem. It just takes trying a few different settings, until you find the one you like. You also have FreeMove settings, acceleration setting and led setting on this tab, as you can see from above screen shot.

The third tab is the windows setting tab. This is where all your general settings such as wheel speed, double click speed and pointer speed are set. You can see it on the screen shot below.

Options

The forth tab is the options. Where it tells you what version of software, hardware and language you have selected. You can see it on above screen shot.

The last screen shot is of the Pro Gamers Advice tab. It comes in very handy while setting up your mouse. At the very bottom of screen shot you have five profiles. This is where you can set up for different applications like different game set ups. This is very useful if you play a wide variety of games. You can even download other gamer’s set-ups.

Pro Gamers Advice

Overall, I found the software to be very user friendly. I have no complaints about it. It does what it supposed to do.

Final Thoughts:

I found the SteelSeries Xai laser gaming mouse to be very easy to set-up and use. It has an ergonomic design that is very user friendly. The ten buttons on it can be assigned to anything you choose.  The software is easy to understand and use. Overall, it is a very good gaming mouse - with one exception - it feels a little out of balance.  If you place your hand in normal position and pick it up it feels a little heavy in the palm.  If you like a mouse with a little "junk in the trunk" this would be perfect.  After a few hours of use it become familiar; the initial booty shock is what surprised me.

Overall I found the SteelSeries Xai laser gaming mouse to be a very good choice for the hardcore gamer.  After using it for a couple of weeks, I would certainly buy one. If you are in the market for a mouse, I would definitely give it a good look.

Pros:

  • Plug and play
  • Ease of set-up
  • Ten programmable buttons
  • User friendly software
  • Ergonomic design
  • Good for Right or Left handed user

Cons:

  • A little out of balance
